Soetaert Eagle Project

Here's the distinguished crew that assembled early Saturday morning to help Brian Soetaert execute the first stage of his Eagle Project. Brush was cleared & benches were constructed for a prayer/meditation area at Heritage United Methodist Church located at 12850 Quivira Road.

May 2010 Court of Honor

It's always an amazing evening when Scouts and their families gather for a Court of Honor. This evening also included recognition of Mr. Jeff Turner as he transitioned his leadership role of Troop 122 Scoutmaster to Mr. Jeff Allison. Gordon J Harton received the Kevin Sweeney Honor Award.

Order Of The Arrow Induction Weekend

Here's a group shot of our brave Scouts headed to the April 30-May 2 Order Of The Arrow "Induction Weekend" at Camp Naish. Both Ordeal Candidates and Brotherhood Candidates are participating.
Jim Bush is quite the fashion trendsetter...looks like everyone virtually joined him in wearing his trademark bandanna.

March 2010 Camp Out: Bartle

40+ Scouts from Troop 122 spent the weekend at the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation. Activities included a conservation/service project, a 5 mile hike, orienteering, and various skills transfered from older scouts to the first year scouts. The highlights included a trip to the point, and a visit to Camp Sawmill. Saturday evening included a trip into Iconium to enjoy peach floats at Scott's Iconium Store.
Here's a video that showcases some of the fun.

Today's Photography Merit Badge Workshop

We just concluded today's in-house Photography Merit Badge Workshop. We had 11 Boy Scouts in attendance. Thank you to Mr. Latimer and Mr. Roldan for assistance.
Although we talked about camera equipment, we see the camera simply as a tool for our creative efforts. The camera--whether it costs $180 or $5000--lets us control shutter speed and aperture size. But the real focus (pun intended) was being creative & purposeful with types of light, motion, depth of field, color temperature, angle of view, rule of thirds, and other concepts. The Scouts' projects were an impressive collection of photographs. Their completed worksheets documented a great amount of pre-work.
Finally, we collaborated together as a team of photographers, lighting specialist, artistic directors, background grips, key grips, and talent to showcase what we learned. Even when we experienced an unforeseen technical glitch with the lighting equipment, we remained calm and leveraged our training to adjust & execute the shot. Our resulting image, after the digital darkroom, is above.
Congratulations to all of our class graduates!
